Fashion house Gucci yesterday debuted its new denim “crafted from organic cotton and specifically treated for a stained-like, distressed effect.”
The jeans look like they have grass stains and sell for $1,200. The overall version sells for $1,400.
The description on the website says, “Gucci explores new takes on the cult fabric, reinterpreting it with different designs and washing techniques that blur the line between vintage and contemporary. All organic cotton leftovers from the cutting process for this product are then upcycled into new materials under the ‘Gucci Up’ program.
Pieces with versatile ways to wear and style embrace each person who is part of the House’s individual spirit.”
Social media reaction was swift.
“Peak stupid.”
“Are you an absolute idiot? Then Gucci has some jeans for you.”
“You can create your own version by rolling around in your garden in a pair of ill fitting jeans.”
“I can go outside and put grass stains on my denim jeans for free. Thanks Gucci, but I can take it from here.”

Gucci says on its website the new jeans channel the “grunge vibe.”
According to People magazine, Gucci made headlines last year with its $870 men’s and women’s sneakers that were “treated for an all-over distressed effect.” According to the website’s description, the shoe design was inspired by “vintage sportswear” and “classic trainers from the ’70s.”
The sneakers were called the “Screen” and were sold in green and orange, red and green and blue and orange for men and green and orange and a strawberry print for women.
People reported, "And even though the shoes already look worn and dirty, Gucci provides very specific cleaning instructions in case actual dirt ever got on the high-priced pair.
‘Clean when the shoe is dry, using only neutral or same-color products to avoid staining,’ the instructions read. ‘Should the material become wet, dry it with a soft, dry cloth.’"
