Japan did not have an answer for Brittney Griner. Griner's 18 first half points were more than any other player scored in the 2016 gold-medal game for the United States.
She finished the game with 30 points and surpassed Lisa Leslie's previous scoring record of 29 points in a gold-medal game. Griner is the first women's player to score 30 points in a gold-medal game at the Olympics.
