Her Field of Dreams
Orlando Pride forward Sydney Leroux is an unstoppable force on the soccer field. In the fall 2020 National Women’s Soccer League series, the veteran led her team in number of shots, shots on goal and aerials won. But Leroux is quick to share the credit with her coach and teammates. “We all just play for each other, and I think you can really see that on the field,” she says. Married to Toronto Football Club forward Dom Dwyer, the 2012 Olympic gold medalist and mother of two enjoys “having my kids see what their mom can do and see their mom chase her dreams still.” The native Canadian has taken flak for leaving her homeland, but Orlando has become home. “I see myself here long-term. I want to help build the club and I want to help the rookies,” she says. “Orlando is the perfect place to raise [my kids]. The fans are amazing. It’s just an amazing club.” At 31, Leroux isn’t looking toward retirement anytime soon. “I think I still have so much more to give, and if you were on the field with me, I think you would say the same.” —Cheri Henderson
