Fitzpatrick: Argument over social distancing led to fatal stabbing: Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said an argument about social distancing led to Chennal Price-Green, 44, being fatally stabbed outside the Syracuse Community Health Center Wednesday morning. Two Syracuse residents have been charged with murder.

There’s a system in place to hold police accountable. Does it work? Syracuse taxpayers have been billed more than $5 million in damages over the last three years to compensate people treated unjustly by police. In every instance, those people tried to punish the officers through a system that’s meant to hold cops accountable. When the police investigated their own, though, they found no wrongdoing. Why? The Syracuse police disciplinary system is slanted to favor officers and is intentionally resistant to change, a syracuse.com/The Post-Standard review of legal cases and police contracts shows.

Congratulations, Class of 2020: It’s been a tumultuous year for high school seniors all over Central New York, with their senior year interrupted by the coronavirus. We’re publishing the names of candidates for graduation for high schools in Cayuga, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego counties. You can also learn more about each school’s valedictorian and salutatorian. Longtime Syracuse activist hit by car, killed: Linda DeStefano — a well-known member of Syracuse’s activist community who spent decades advocating for animal rights, environmental protection and social justice — was struck by a car and killed last week while she was leaving a friend’s funeral. “Linda will be remembered as a stalwart organizer for people, animals and the environment," the People for Animal Rights of CNY said.

Coronavirus update:

Youth sports get OK to start next month: Gov. Andrew Cuomo said on Sunday that “low-risk youth sports” can restart in Central New York early next month. Those sports include baseball, softball, gymnastics, field hockey, cross country and crew. Each child player can have two spectators at games or events.

Cuomo warns bars, restaurants: Restaurants and bars that attract too many customers at one time risk losing their liquor licenses, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said of businesses reopening. The reminder came after the state had received 25,000 complaints about reopening violations in recent days, though most were about businesses in Manhattan and the Hamptons.

HEADED TO THE PROS: Le Moyne College pitcher Ryan Murphy (above), taken by San Francisco in the fifth round of Thursday night's Major League Baseball amateur draft, said Friday that he will forgo his final two years of college eligibility and sign with the Giants. “I think I just want to just want to follow my dream and live out being a professional baseball player and taking the opportunity now while I have it,” Murphy said. Meanwhile, Baldwinsville high school pitcher Jason Savacool said he will head to the University of Maryland after going undrafted. Savacool said teams knew that third-, fourth- or fifth-round bonus money wouldn't be enough to lure him from college. (Photo courtesy Greg Wall))

A long way from home: Austyn Kauhi, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound member of the Class of 2021, became the first offensive lineman to pledge to the Orange this cycle. If he signs and joins the program, it’s believed that he would become the first native Hawaiian player to earn a scholarship at Syracuse.
