FRANKFORD, Del. – The board of directors for the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company is meeting on Monday night to vote on the future status of an employee after she posted a controversial video on the social media app TikTok.

Officials with the fire department say she was reenacting a comedy skit but they also say it was an attempt to make light of racism within the police force.

“The video flies in the face of everything that we stand for,” says Robbie Murray, the president of the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company. “We want to let the community know that we recognize that that video was wrong and we take immediate action on that video.”

The video shows an employee at the fire company reenacting a comedy skit about how to solve the issue of quote “racist cops” with the response “only black people should be allowed to be cops”.

“She was in our uniform, in our firehouse, on duty for us as an employee,” says Murray.

The employee is also seen reenacting the part of the skit that says, “What about white people? Well white people can be firefighters. We’re more outdoorsy.”

“Certainly we have standards of conduct and part of that standards of conduct is representing the fire company appropriately and in good light at all times and this clearly failed in that regard,” says Murray.

The video was reposted to Facebook and has received a lot of attention as some feel she’s making light of racism within the police force. One user says, “How do I know she wouldn’t let someone die at my residence because of the color of their skin?”

Meanwhile others saying she was exercising her first amendment right but officials do not agree with that argument. “You lose some of that freedom of speech when you are acting as a representative of the organization,” says Murray.

As the department decides on her future employment status, officials want the community to know they take this situation seriously. “We will do better in the future whether that is through additional training and education, through cultural sensitivity training, an improved social media policy. The community deserves better and we will do better,” says Murray.

Murray is also thanking the community for serving as a watchdog because he says they may not have seen this post as quickly as they did if it weren’t for the number of people who reached out to them about it.

47 ABC also reached out to the town of Frankford but they had no comment. There are rumors the employee in the video also works at Delmar Volunteer Fire Department but Delmar officials have not gotten back to us.
