Social media has become a normal part of how physicians share news and opinions and connect with colleagues.
With renewed discussion about diversity and inclusion at the forefront of society, we are highlighting 20 top Black physician social media influencers. To be considered an "influencer," physicians need to provide useful, credible information and interact with followers in a meaningful way. Influencers should also set an industry standard for best practices on social media, including behaving ethically and steering clear of special interests.
To craft our list, we started with metrics regarding number of followers, interactions, and scope. We also analyzed social media data on followers and engagements. In addition, we sought feedback from two doctors savvy in social media: Alden Landry, MD, MPH, an emergency physician and assistant dean for diversity, inclusion, and community partnership at Harvard Medical School, and Amanda Calhoun, MD, MPH, an adult/child psychiatry resident at Yale, researcher, and resident leader of Yale's Graduate Medicine Diversity initiatives.
Here's our list in alphabetic order. Don't see your favorite doctor here? Send us your recommendation.
