Media finding out that selling out for Biden gets them nothing - Boston Herald

I’ve often wondered if the press would ever have to pay a price for their flagrant dishonesty, so I’m happy to announce that the time has come!

And it’s all thanks to President Biden. I didn’t think I’d be thanking the 46th president this quickly, but here we are.

For four years journalists cried wolf about President Trump’s supposed authoritarian tendencies: He was a threat to journalism and free speech and the very foundations of democracy. In between writing stories about his incompetence or his poor diet or the state of his marriage, this purportedly fettered press would often compare Trump to Stalin or Hitler or Mussolini.

Unlike those evil leaders, Trump had an incredibly open (albeit contentious) relationship with the press. If he wasn’t taking questions on the White House lawn, he was hosting combative pressers in the briefing room that sometimes went on for hours.

Not to mention the fact that Trump’s constant, cantankerous tweeting kept the Brian Stelters of the world obsessed for days on end. President Trump is talkative to a fault — and for the news media, this was a great problem to have.

As of Jan. 20, there has been a shift. Joe Biden is now sitting behind the resolute desk and the Diet Coke button isn’t the only thing that is missing.

The journalists who complained endlessly about Trump’s lack of transparency are about to see what real secrecy looks like. While some of these reporters remember the Obama years, even that eight-year snoozefest could not prepare them for what is coming down the pipeline.

President Obama, at the very least, was a smooth operator. With a bit of charisma and a docile media, Barack was able to hold cogent press conferences. On the rare occasion he was asked a tough question, Obama knew how to dance around the issue in his characteristically longwinded way.

Despite garnering more votes than Obama, Biden is not blessed with his best friend’s skill set — which explains why his handlers aggressively demand the press disperse immediately after Joe finishes his prepared remarks.

God forbid Biden’s helpers let the leader of the free world go off script, so they keep him on a tighter leash than Major the wonder rescue dog.

But occasionally Joe, wanting to feel more like a president and less like a puppet, breaks from his strings. Recently after he finished signing several disastrous executive orders, a reporter asked Joe if his vaccine plan (100 million vaccines in his first 100 days) was ambitious enough.

On the surface, it wasn’t a particularly tough question. But compared to the inquiries that Joe has grown accustomed to over the last few months, the query was a doozy.

When faced with a question not involving milkshake flavors or Orange Man, Joe immediately resorted to Barack’s old standby — he set up a straw man:

“When I announced it, you all said it was not possible. C’mon, give me a break, man.”

Of course, that is not true. No one in the media said his lackluster plan was “not possible.” In fact, the press was far too busy comparing Biden to Moses, Rocky Balboa and even God to bother criticizing his vaccination plans.

The fair question elicited a condescending retort from Joe.

Can you blame him? In his obviously befuddled state, Joe’s only instinct is to snap at anyone who challenges him. The irony is that there is no politician in history who owes the press more gratitude.

After all, the news networks went above and beyond the call of duty for their candidate. By burying stories about Tara Reade, his son Hunter and more, the press permanently ruined their credibility.

The cost of their pathetic groveling? By going all in for Joe, the journalists sacrificed the public’s trust in their sorry institutions.

Biden, thin-skinned and unequipped, will treat these journalists like fools any time they dare try to do their jobs.

The members of the media gave Joe Biden everything. But the press’s president will give them nothing in return.

And nothing is exactly what they deserve.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
