JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Trinity Christian has suspended one of its varsity assistant football coaches after a racially charged social media post suggested violence against white people during Wednesday’s mob scene on Capitol Hill.

A coach at the school made a post on Instagram that said: “I’m ready to see some white bodies drop… start shooting them and taking lives. If it was us we’d be slaughtered by now. They need to start letting rounds go on them boys!”

A follow-up post said: “Not racist, I have friends of different ethnicities and show them all the same love but we all know how the world works! If you gone react and be quick to fire, fire at every race the same!”

News4Jax has chosen not to identify the coach at this time.

Those remarks led to a demand across social media for the school to hold the coach accountable for those remarks. In a message from head of school, David Welling, the school said it will not tolerate that behavior and that the coach would be suspended “moving forward.”

“Late this afternoon we were informed of a social media post made by an individual associated with our sports programs here at Trinity Christian Academy. We responded immediately and want to be transparent with the action we have taken. The well-being of our students and the integrity of our testimony as a school is of utmost importance to us,” the statement from Welling said.

“We were deeply troubled by the comments made on social media by a part time positional coach associated with TCA. The comments do not, in any way, reflect the values we uphold at our school. The season has ended, and the coach has no current responsibilities, but we have suspended him moving forward in order to ensure there will be no ongoing involvement with any TCA programs. TCA is committed to hiring qualified individuals who are passionate about their areas of expertise, and who exemplify positive character to our students and athletes, and who represents the Christian values of our school. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated.”

Trinity Christian went 12-1 and won the Class 3A state championship last month, the eighth in program history.
