BLOOMINGTON (WEEK) - Sunday, some Bloomington-Normal teens shared their voices on recent social justice issues taking place across the country.

Following the Derek Chauvin verdict, those gathering Sunday felt justice was served, but said there is still more work to be done.

The Bloomington-Normal NAACP hosted the event allowing their youth council members share poems and speeches on social injustice.

Unit 5 teachers, law enforcement and other community members joined to hear their voices.

First Vice President of Bloomington-Normal NAACP, Dr. Carla Campbell said it's important the towns youth voices are heard.

"If we see something that's wrong, we have to be bold enough to say something," said Campbell. "We are encouraging our youth that if they see something that's not right, that's not fair, and that's not just, they must be courageous enough to speak out."

Campbell says this event is the first step in a new beginning working towards a united community.
