The Ravens canceled their Friday morning practice to hold a “unifying session surrounding social justice reform,” the team announced early in the morning.

The practice’s cancellation the morning after the Ravens released a powerful team statement that called for, amongst other things, the arrest and charge of police officers responsible for Breonna Taylor’s killing and the recent shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
“With yet another example of racial discrimination with the shooting of Jacob Blake, and the unlawful abuse of peaceful protestors, we MUST unify as a society,” the statement Thursday read. “It is imperative that all people — regardless of race, religion, creed or belief — come together to say, ‘Enough is enough!’”
The statement also encouraged everyone to engage in the political process and drive change for the better in Baltimore, as well as the United States. It was perhaps the most comprehensive, and detailed, statement released by a professional sports organization.
“This is bigger than sports,” the Ravens said. “Racism is embedded in the fabric of our nation’s foundation and is a blemish on our country’s history. If we are to change course and make our world a better place, we must face this problem head-on and act now to enact positive change.”

The Ravens practiced Thursday morning, but canceled afternoon meetings and media availability to focus on its next move. The organization, and owner Steve Bisciotti’s foundation, have also donated $1 million to support social justice reform in the city.
Coach John Harbaugh is scheduled to speak with reporters at 2:15 Friday afternoon.
