Our Lives on Social Media - The New York Times

Students in U.S. high schools can get free digital access to The New York Times until Sept. 1, 2021.

The Times reports that researchers have been looking at online behavior to gauge public mental health, and the results this year have shown more sadness than ever before.

In general, how much do you think researchers and data analysts can judge our collective happiness as a society by what’s posted on social media? How useful a barometer of people’s mental states do you think social media is? If researchers were focusing on your feed, what do you think they would conclude about your mood over these last months? How accurate would that be?
