MORLEY – Social workers are often a vital part of school systems and other organizations. One Morley social worker was recently recognized for her exceptional work in the field.
Tara Lovejoy, a school social worker at Morley Stanwood Elementary School, was honored at the Michigan Association of School Social Workers’ annual conference and was ultimately named the 2020 Regional School Social Worker of the Year.
Lovejoy is currently completing her 32nd year as a school social worker in Michigan and her 23rd year at Morley Stanwood Community Schools. She originally started her career as a special education school social worker in Huron County but has spent most of her years serving both the general and special education populations.
Lovejoy regularly works with students from preschool through fifth grade at Morley Stanwood Elementary School providing individual and group counseling, classroom lessons, ADHD screenings, and consulting with staff and parents.
A member of the Meceola Children’s Council and Mecosta Osceola Crisis Response Team, Lovejoy also schedules school assemblies, works closely with local community organizations to address the needs of students and their families, and is responsible for the completion of the school yearbook.
She is very supportive of BSW and MSW programs and has supervised 18 social work interns from six different colleges and universities.
When receiving her award, Lovejoy indicated that she is fortunate to work in a community with so many dedicated and caring people who support the school district in so many ways and is grateful to God and the people she works with for making her job something she continues to enjoy.
